Two earthworms formed in a heart as a figure

IVN lecture A tribute to the earthworm

Contents Lecture

The lecture will be given by Lonneke van Soest. Earthworms are simple, soft animals, not much more than a muscular tube with a mouth on one side and an anus on the other, connected by a straight piece of intestine. Right?

Perhaps they are even more important for healthy ecosystems and human well-being than bees. In any case, Darwin devoted 39 years of research and an entire book to earthworms and wrote, "It remains to be seen whether any species have played as important a role in world history as these simple life forms." Aristotle called them the bowels of the earth. And what do they have to do with Cleopatra and what was their role in the 2000 Olympics?
