Exhibition Via Creativa

This exhibition presents an overview of the work of Irene Schepens-Soons (77). A small part of the exhibited works, mainly expressive in nature, dates from an earlier period and has been exhibited before. However, the majority of the works were created after her retirement and consist of still lifes, landscapes and portraits. These paintings are mostly characterized by a more realistic approach and a more modest size.

To the question: "What do you paint?", the answer is invariably: "Everything I find beautiful. Anything that moves me, anything with a deeper layer." In that approach lies her vision: beauty often reveals itself in the small, in details that are easily overlooked.

To the question: "What do you paint?", the answer is invariably: "Everything I find beautiful. Anything that moves me, anything with a deeper layer." In that approach lies her vision: beauty often reveals itself in the small, in details that are easily overlooked.

Throughout her career, she has always told her students, "If your gaze rests on something longer than usual, stand still - it has something to say to you." She now passes that same thought on to her grandson Thomas (7), who enjoys painting with her during vacations. Some of his works are also included in this exhibition.

Especially valuable to her are the assignments in which memory is central. It can be a portrait surrounded by personal objects, or a still life with meaningful attributes and a photograph of the owner. In this way memory takes on a tangible and lasting form.

A lasting source of inspiration is the Morvan in Burgundy, France. For more than ten years she has found there, at her permanent vacation spot and in the surrounding area, an inexhaustible source for landscapes, still lifes and interior pieces.

Painting to her means joy, concentration and comfort. The most recent work, The Annunciation, was created during a period of personal trial. This symbolic painting was painted in surrender, as a processing of a profound message.

With confidence she looks forward to Easter, like a colorful dot on the horizon. You are most welcome at Galerie De Verdieping in Moergestel. She hopes to greet you there personally and looks forward to an inspiring and joyful Easter.
