Orchestra Orventus with Her Story

Music by and about women

With Haar Verhaal (Her Story) Orkest Orventus presents a concert program that focuses on female strength, struggle, imagination and innovation. In this concert series you will hear music that tells stories about women, as well as music written by women - a perspective that is still too rarely heard in classical wind music.

The program connects impressive historical figures with contemporary musical voices. From the dramatic power of Joan of Arc by Verdi to the spirited sounds of Poème du Feu by Ida Gotkovsky. Compositions by Julie Giroux, Jodie Blackshaw and Erika Svanoe demonstrate the versatility and eloquence of today's female composers, while A Movement for Rosa by Mark Camphouse is a poignant tribute to Rosa Parks and the civil rights movement.

Led by conductor Jacco Nefs, Orkest Orventus brings adventurous wind music with a small, flexible line-up and a transparent sound. The orchestra is known for its surprising choice of repertoire and high musical level. Her Story is therefore not only an ode to women in and behind music, but also a compelling concert experience for a wide audience.
