Mushrooms are interesting, endearing, tasty, mysterious, but also nasty and sometimes even poisonous. Many stories exist around fungi and mushrooms. Witches, devils, Judas, fairies and gnomes, all are associated with mushrooms!

Fungi are very special living creatures. No plants, no animals, "neither meat nor fish."
They play a very important role in nature. A large number perform the role of "garbage man". But among the fungi are also ruthless parasites, while other species, on the contrary, live their lives in intense friendly cooperation with mutual benefit.

We often don't see much of the fungi themselves. They are found as threads in the ground, in litter or in wood.
We need the mushrooms. These are the fruiting bodies that ensure reproduction. The best known are the "real" mushrooms, with stalk and cap. However, many fruiting bodies of fungi look very different. Sometimes they are not recognizable as mushrooms, but as fruiting bodies of fungi.

Mushrooms are a very shapely group of living creatures.
They vary greatly in size (from a few millimeters to 40 to 50 centimeters) and they come in all colors; red, green, black, brown, purple, and yellow. They usually arise in the fall, they have been called "the flowers of autumn," but there are also species that you can find year-round and still others that are actually tied to spring.
