Musical theater: H.M.S. Pinafore, Downsouth Oisterwijk
A comic operetta in two acts
The British naval ship Her Majesty's Sailingship Pinafore, under the command of Captain Corcoran, is docked in Portsmouth harbor. The crew is taking care to keep the ship looking gleaming just today, as a high-ranking visit is expected. Rear Admiral Sir Joseph Porter, an extremely distinguished gentleman, along with his entourage of female relatives, will visit the ship with the intention of asking for the hand of Corcoran's daughter Josephine. Unfortunately, unspoken infatuations, intrigue, dark secrets and not to mention differences in standing cause complications.
With their irresistible humor and compelling melodies, making fun of prevailing British mores and parodying classical composers, composer Arthur Sullivan and lyricist William Gilbert provide another scintillating evening of musical theater.
