Jubilee Exhibition ART BETWEEN THE COMPANIES
In the footsteps of a legendary art event from 1926
In 1926 Oisterwijk presented itself as Art Village, with a large modern exhibition at the Klompven. The exposition was organized in cooperation with artist group "De Onafhankelijken," who were already active in Amsterdam at the time.
As many as 172 works of art by sixty leading artists were on display, including Picasso, Mondrian, Charley Toorop, Diego Rivera, Zadkine and Chabot. The event would put Oisterwijk on the cultural map.
The initiators of the exhibition at the time, architect Johan Visser and garden designer John Bergmans, developed a progressive vision for the Klompven and the studio 't Kapelleke. Their joint promotional slogan "Oisterwijk, Pearl of Brabant" was born that same year.

Artist and organizer Ellen Brouwers rediscovered the work and significance of Johan Visser and John Bergmans for Oisterwijk as a result of her work contacts for CBS in Heerlen. That discovery led to a renewed fascination and the realization that 100 years after the fact, we offer a stage to artists that 'The pearl of Oisterwijk' still needs
In 2026 she and a group of artists will celebrate the 1st anniversary of KUNST TUSSEN DE BEDRIJVEN, a modern exhibition. Just like then, art will be presented at a surprising, uncommon location; in the industrial area of Oisterwijk. The Pearl of Brabant still deserves to continue to shine, even as an Art Village.
A series of contemporary artists have been invited for the summer edition of 2026. Together they form a diverse and inspiring selection. The artists hope that history will repeat itself and that they too will be remembered 100 years from now. The artists are:
