Summer Gatherings: Field Trip to the Van Bommel Shoe Factory

The last remaining shoe manufacturer in the Netherlands. With a history dating back to 1734, Schoenfabriek Wed. J.P. van Bommel b.v. can call itself one of the oldest shoe factories in Western Europe.

For nine generations at Van Bommel, fathers have passed down the art of shoemaking to their sons. The same is true of the many talented artisans who work at Van Bommel. For centuries, they have been passing on their experience and expertise to new generations. Even today, they ensure that every Van Bommel shoe is a truly unique piece.

Floris van Bommel, along with his two brothers, is now the ninth generation to carry on the family’s shoemaking tradition. Former director Frans van Bommel will lead the tour, which will be preceded by a historical film.
