Natuurgebied Kampina
The name Kampina is derived from the Roman "Campina," another name for Kempen, meaning "wasteland. Kampina covers 1535 hectares southeast of Oisterwijk and southwest of Boxtel. Central to the area is the Kampinase Heide, which includes the Belversven, the Huisvennen and the Zandbergsvennen. It is one of the few places in North Brabant where no buildings are discernible. The northern part of the Kampina is quite dry and in August offers a beautiful color mosaic in shades of purple of the flowering heather. In winter, the water of the southeastern Beerze river overflows its banks. The stream valley is then a favorite place for water and migratory birds.
Visitors are free to walk in the Kampina. The area is easily accessible from the Kapelweg (N624) between Oisterwijk and Boxtel. There are bird watching screens at the Meeuwenven and the Ganzenven. At the Meeuwenven birdwatchers will also find a viewing hut.
