Why you shouldn't miss this:
Historical and educational: Steam engines played a crucial role in the Industrial Revolution 2. They were essential for generating energy, powering machinery and improving production capacity. Seeing a working steam engine puts you in touch with the history of technology and the development of industry.
Technical wonder: Steam engines are fascinating devices. It is impressive to see how these ancient machines work, how steam power is converted into motion and how they generate energy. It is a chance to understand the technology behind one of the oldest forms of mechanical power generation.
3. Unique Experience: Not many people have the chance to see a steam engine in action, especially one that still generates electricity. It is a rare opportunity to experience something physical and tangible that is the result of centuries of technological progress.
(4) Sustainability aspect: Many of these steam engines today are restored and used for educational purposes, for example to demonstrate sustainable energy production or historical techniques. It can be an interesting way to learn about the development of energy sources over time.
In short, it is an experience that brings together both the past and the present of energy production and is as impressive as it is educational! Did you know that...? You can also tour the steam engine by appointment? Whether you want a private tour, have a school class or are looking for a unique photo location, our enthusiastic volunteers are ready to welcome you. Are you interested in engineering or restoration yourself? Then become a volunteer with the Stichting Stoommachine Oisterwijk and contribute to the preservation of this historic monument.
You are welcome to visit the beautiful building within the KVL complex at 18 Almystraat in Oisterwijk. The steam engine is located at the base of the large tall chimney on the KVL site by the railroad tracks. Come along and discover a piece of history that lives!
