The 6 fun playgrounds of the Fiets- en Funroute
May 1, 2025
I am Kristel and together with my children I will do the Fiets- en Funroute . The complete route is 28 km with 16 playgrounds. You will cycle through Oisterwijk, Heukelom, Haaren and Moergestel. We are going to do part of the bicycle route and visit 6 playgrounds. For this we will cycle through the Brabant villages of Oisterwijk and Haaren. A bike ride with fun. We are really looking forward to it!
1. De Gerrithoeve in Oisterwijk.
We kick off the cycling route with a visit to De Gerrithoeve in Oisterwijk, this location is known as versatile and child-friendly. The former farm has been transformed into a farm restaurant and terrace. Outside there is a beautiful large playground with slides, climbing equipment, a sandbox, go-karts and a cable car. The weather is nice so I take a seat outside on the terrace while the kids run into the playground.
Even in less good weather, the smallest children can play here. In the farm restaurant you will find nice play corners. In the barn and outside, the children can admire the farm animals. We are lucky because there are chickens born on the farm, which we can admire. Too cute!
De Gerrithoeve has a spacious farm terrace. On the terrace and inside the restaurant they serve delicious coffee but also authentic dishes such as the 'Tosti Gerrit', meatballs with bread and a Brabant sausage roll. Of course, we are in Brabant, aren't we. A unique experience is the 'food from the clog'. A specialty of De Gerrithoeve.
If you have all the time, you can take your toddler(s) on an adventure with the gnome walk. Have fun playing hide and seek in the woods, climbing over tree trunks and singing a song to the gnomes.
We cycle on to the next address, but there are also plenty of people who stay overnight here. You can camp at De Gerrithoeve with your own tent, caravan or camper. If you prefer more luxury, there is also a vacation home.
2. Het Boscafé
After a nice bike ride through nature, we arrive at the playground of Het Boscafé. This playground with a trampoline, climbing and scrambling equipment, seesaws and a wobble bridge is perfect for the little ones. In fact, from the terrace, parents have a good view of the playground. So you can relax and enjoy yourself while the children play. There is also a lot of lower play equipment so the little ones can explore on their own.
At Het Boscafé you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a sumptuous lunch or a cozy dinner. In bad weather the smaller children can play here. There are all kinds of toys in the children's corner for them to play with.
3. De Schaapjes in Haaren
Look, there we have the next playground already... De Schaapjes in Haaren, a brasserie in an authentic farm setting with a large terrace and playground. The playground is for children of all ages with various playground equipment, swings and plenty of room to run and explore. From the terrace you have a view of the playground. Ideal because that way you can watch the kids play while you enjoy a nice cup of coffee on the terrace. At least, that's how I do it 😊.
4. Nature playground OERRR in Oisterwijk
We are now on our way to OERRR's adventurous nature playground in Oisterwijk. The playground is located in the middle of the forest, right behind Natuurmonumenten's Visitor Center. Children can build huts, climb and clamber here. There is a large water pump and they can walk over water and tree trunks via the support ropes. The real nature lovers can get a water safari scavenger hunt bag at the visitors center of Natuurmomenten for a small fee. You will then set off with a small bucket and net to specific places where you can discover aquatic animals.
Tip: Take some spare clothes with you because the chances of the kids getting wet here are quite high. We luckily kept it dry but that was only a hair's breadth away.
For toddlers, there is a separate grove with a sandbox and a log path, making this playground geared toward all ages.
If you still want something to eat or drink, you can take a seat on the forest terrace of Groot Speijck, located at the Speijckven. Here you can enjoy a healthy smoothie or a surprising lunch dish in the middle of the Brabant woods. How beautiful do you want it?
It's also fun to stop in at the Natuurmonumenten Visitor Center, because you can see all kinds of fun educational things about nature there.
5. Landal Klein Oisterwijk
We cycle on to Klein Oisterwijk, this is also a Landal Park where you can stay overnight with your family. There are two playgrounds, one playground is located directly on the Oirschotsebaan and the adventure island is further on the property behind the hospitality. From a cable car to swings and climbing frames, children can play and explore endlessly in this unique natural playground in the middle of the greenery. The catering facility is currently under renovation but will reopen in a new look in the summer. So Klein Oisterwijk is definitely worth a visit. NB Restaurant Lago Oisterwijk will be open from September 2025.
Besides the beautiful natural playground there are also many people who come here for a day out. Namely, you can rent Piet Plezier bikes here. These are special family bikes with which you can discover the Oisterwijk woods and fens. There are several routes available, including the Bos- en Vennentocht, a photo quest and a puzzle ride.
For those who love a tough game, there is the Escaperoom. They also have an Adventure mini golf course with challenging obstacles such as tree stumps, rocks and water features. The course is suitable for all ages 6 and up. For a game of roller ball and snooker golf you have also come to the right place. So at Klein Oisterwijk they have all kinds of fun activities for a day out with the family.
6. Pannenkoekenhuis De Ontdekking in Oisterwijk
All that biking does make you hungry! We are on our way to The Discovery for lunch. And what do you really make my kids happy? .... with pancakes of course! While I sit down on the terrace and order our lunch, the kids are having fun in the playground. There are two large bouncy castles for them to play on. There is a traffic square, a climbing tower with slide, various swings, bouncy poles and trampolines. In short, enough entertainment for the children!
We are lucky with the sunny weather so the children can play outside in the playground, but even in worse weather this is a fun address. Upstairs there is an indoor playground with climbing tower and table football. For game fans, there is a Mario game corner as well as a soccer game corner. Those who love to dance can have fun in the disco area. If you eat here, the kids get tokens to pick out some more fun stuff in the treasure room. That's the icing on the cake, as our children say.
With a well-filled belly, we biked back to the bike rental to return our bikes. We had a very nice day. For us a successful day out and nice to discover Oisterwijk and Haaren this way.
